Volunteers are the Key to TAPS Success
Would you like to do work that is both rewarding and interesting? Then
consider becoming a TAPS volunteer.
To become a volunteer, you must first attend a volunteer orientation - held
at 6:30-7:30 pm twice monthly. Please call TAPS to sign up for an
orientation date.
All volunteers must attend an orientation prior to
volunteering. Orientation consists of discussing various volunteer
opportunities, a tour of the facility, and an overview of policies and
procedures. Attendees can also watch the Gentle Leader training video.
Please call us at 309-353-8277 or email us at tapsvol@yahoo.com to
schedule your orientation.
Volunteers at TAPS work along side the staff to provide day-to-day care of
the animals. There are many different types of people who volunteer. Retired
people volunteer because they have extra time and want to help. Students
volunteer because they want to do something meaningful for the community and
may need community service hours. People interested in a career with animals
learn new skills at the shelter. Some people volunteer because they can't
have a pet of their own due to housing restrictions and want to interact
with the shelter animals. Whatever the reason, volunteers are always needed
and welcome at TAPS.
What do we ask of our volunteers?
- Consider volunteering a serious commitment. The animals
count on you to be there on a regular basis.
- Commit to volunteering at least four hours per month for
a minimum of three months.
- Attend Volunteer Orientation and animal care training.
- Support our philosophies and policies inside and
outside the shelter.
- Be honest and realistic concerning your needs, wishes
and availability.
What do volunteers get in return?
- The opportunity to be around and learn about animals.
- The chance to develop new skills.
- The opportunity to meet and form new friendships - human and animal.
- The intangible benefit of helping a good cause in your community.
- LICKS, WAGS & PURRS!
